Worstedopolis

Worstedopolis is a generative light work by Ronan Devlin, commissioned for BD: is LIT 2025 and projected at architectural scale onto Bradford City Hall.

In the nineteenth century Bradford became the world centre of worsted production and took the name Worstedopolis. Devlin’s work returns to the structures on which that industry was built — plain weave, twill, satin, dobby, jacquard — and translates their logic into a digital fabric that shifts continually through colour, geometry and pattern across the façade of the city’s civic heart, joining its industrial past to a digital present.
