The Cutting Room presents: What is Love? — January to October 2018.
Set in a near future where artificial intelligence is part of everyday life, What is Love? follows Jack and Amelia, an ambitious young couple working apart in different countries. When they start to neglect their relationship, AI notices and steps in to help. Onlookers were drawn into the story as the couple’s mediated life unfolded in front of them and ‘fate’ took hold.
The film was powered by The Cutting Room, an object-based media tool I developed. It premiered a new kind of storytelling, tailored by algorithm to each viewer: no two voices or vantage points were the same, because editing decisions were made in real time. The film responded to its audience — length, depth of interest, location, personal preferences, lifestyle, age and more.
